John Does Dallas

Sadly, Memorial Day weekend is over and it’s back to “normal” again. My brother, John, visited this weekend from Florida and we had such a blast! I was so sad to say goodbye to him this morning, though.

He got in Thursday evening and we went straight to the Flying Saucer in downtown Ft. Worth for dinner and drinks. After that, we went to the H-3 Ranch in the Stockyards for a few more drinks and dessert.

On Friday, we met Garrett for lunch at the World’s Largest Hooters in Dallas. Then did some shopping at the Galleria, and off to Top Golf for some electronic driving range fun.

Saturday morning Garrett got John on the back of the motorcycle and took him for a tour around town and the lake.

He loved it so much we had brunch and then went to the Harley dealership to look around. They always have a party up there on Saturdays, so it was a lot of fun. After that we did some shopping and then went to one of our favorite local restaurants for dinner, then another one for drinks and pool.

Sunday was Six Flags over Texas. We had a blast! Garrett and John went on every roller-coaster they had.

Garrett and I won these.

John found a souvenir in the gift store.

Then it rained and we got SOAKED!

Yesterday we just took it easy and did some more sight-seeing and shopping. Garrett and John kept “posing it out” for shoppers at the Parks Mall. They would stand in random poses without moving and see if people noticed.

One family did notice after walking by a few times. They eventually sat down on a bench and watched them to see if they’d move. For some reason it was hysterical!

Although we didn’t get to enjoy the $5 martinis at Ferrari’s, we had a blast! I’m ready for the next visit! When are you coming back John??

Sunday, Sunny Sunday!

Yesterday was BEAUTIFUL here. Saturday was so gloomy we were shocked at how gorgeous Sunday ended up being.

We took the bike out and rode around the lake.

Garrett even taught me how to drive the motorcycle! (Just kidding, Mom)
We ate lunch at a place called The Oasis, that’s got a marina attached to it. Sort of like Schooners, for those of you back in P.C.

They also have ducks and catfish you can feed.

Check out the mouths on those things!

We had a great time riding around! When we got back, Garrett did some yard work and I got him to take pictures of some of my finished knitting projects.

I think they turned out pretty well! I swear I'm not trying to push my chest out in the second. But, everything is bigger in Texas...

This Thursday my brother will be getting into town for Memorial Day weekend. I’m so excited!! This will be his first trip to Texas, so we’re going to try to show him some fun stuff. Maybe even find him a nice Southern girl. Hey, a sister’s got to try!

"You mother?"

Happy (late) Mother’s Day!

Garrett was out of town the weekend before last at a friend’s wedding in Alabama, so we had to make up for lost movie time this past weekend and see some of the new releases.

On Saturday we saw Star Trek, and let me tell you, it does not disappoint! They did such an awesome job with the script and casting. Everything is true to the original, but modernized for today’s audiences. We give it two Dollar signs up!

On Sunday we saw the Wolverine movie. I thought it was good, Garrett thought it was just okay. Casting was great, script was decent, and special effects had some rough spots. Garrett’s biggest gripe was how they portrayed the Deadpool character at the end of the movie. Since I’m not as familiar with him as some of the others it didn’t bother me. We give it one and a half Dollar signs. (But, of course, anything would be hard to follow Star Trek.)

On Saturday, we found a Japanese restaurant in the next town over that’s pretty good. They do a Texas sushi roll that has brisket instead of fish. It was interesting…

When our (very Asian) waitress came up to us, she said “You mother?” We thought she was asking if I was Garrett’s mother, which he found much funnier than I did. Instead, we realized she was asking if I was a mother so she could wish me a happy Mother’s Day. When she realized what we thought she said, she turned bright red and started fanning herself.

Sunday was our first Mother’s Day away from our mothers, so that was a little sad. We made all the phone calls to moms and grandmothers and then decided to grill out at the house instead of trying to get into a restaurant.

Overall we had a great weekend going into a busy week! Garrett’s working hard today on a show for a big car dealership. (Think Club Hour, but with cars.) They have a short turn-around, so he is busy busy busy. Right now, that’s always a good thing.

Also, my brother will be here next week for Memorial Day weekend, so we’re getting really excited about that!! We can’t wait!
