Dismal

It’s a dismal Monday here in Dallas. Storms with pea-sized hail rolled through this morning and there’s a tornado watch for most of the day. The 7-day forecast even has rain on it every day.

Mornings like this seem to put everyone in a funk. It was dismal over the weekend, too, but when it’s on the weekend it doesn’t seem that bad because you can snuggle up in your PJs and stay in doors. When you have to get up, put on your work clothes, and head out the door it’s an entirely different story.

We didn’t do too much this weekend. We decided to take it easy since Garrett’s mom and brother were in town last weekend, and next weekend Garrett will be out of town for a friend’s wedding. Plus, I had to work last night and will work again tonight for a big commercial realtor’s summit that’s in town.

We did hold a Gremlins and Pirates of the Caribbean marathon this weekend, though, which was pretty awesome. That Gizmo is so cute! (And so is Johnny Depp.)

Working last night wasn’t bad. It was the opening reception for the summit, which was held at the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA to locals) with the King Tut exhibit. I’ve been wanting to see the exhibit since it opened shortly after we moved here, but tickets were a little pricey for me --- especially since I knew Garrett wouldn’t get nearly as much of a thrill as I would from it. So when I found out I’d get to see it for free at this event I was pumped! It was great!

This past Thursday, I went with a group of girls to see a play at our local private university called “I love you, you’re perfect, now change.” It’s a bunch of short skits and songs about relationships at all their different stages. It was really funny and cute! We had a great time. The kids in it were really talented and had amazing voices. And of course, Garrett was excited to have a night to play video games all to himself (like he doesn’t do that while I’m there, or something). J

On the plate for this week: work and get Garrett ready to go out of town.

Where did you go, March?

Dang! It’s already April. Where did March go? Well, I know Spring came…

…but then it went. We have a freeze warning tonight.

We went to a filming of “Pinks All Out” in Ennis at the Texas Motorplex. Since Garrett has been working with some people from the speed network, we were able to get in one of the VIP suites and see the action from right behind the start line. It was awesome! I think I found my new hobby.

They had a car with a JET ENGINE in it! How cool is that?! You could feel the walls shake when it was getting ready to take off.

They also had some supped-up lawn mowers. They were pretty cool until they actually took off on the track. Then they were kinda slow.

My parents came into town for their Spring Break last week. We had so much fun! We wore them out trying to cram in as much of Texas for them as we could.

We went to the Stockyards…

And we also went to Delaney Vineyard in Grapevine. We did a wine tasting and toured the vineyard. We even learned how champagne is made and the difference between it and sparkling wine.

After the vineyard we found the best Italian restaurant called Ferrari’s. It’s locally owned and the food is great, the service is good, and they have $5 martini happy hour. Garrett and Pat loved the chocolate martinis, but I stuck with a flight of champagne.

Now the parents are gone, and everything is back to normal (except for the cold weather). Next, Garrett’s mom and brother will be coming through town on their way from California to Florida, so we’ve got another visit to look forward to!

P.S. The “bedroom scene” they filmed at our house (from the entry below) was cut from the final video, which will hopefully be ready soon and able to be posted!
