Our holiday was really nice! Garrett and I went out for a delicious dinner at one of our favorite local restaurants. They serve their beer in these great frosted goblets, and have the best seafood that we’ve been able to find in Texas.
New Year’s day we were both off and got out to ramble around some (as my mother would say). We discovered the wonder that is Central Market. That place is awesome! It’s like a gourmet grocery store for foodies. Unfortunately it’s about 25 minutes away, so we aren’t able to stop by on our way home, but we will be making special trips there when we are planning on company.
I also finished a new cardigan that I knitted. The name is the “Minimalist Cardigan” from Interweave Knits magazine. I think it's called that because it’s a fairly simple stitch and has no buttons.
Originally I’d hoped to have it finished by Christmas because of it's color, but it got put on hold for Christmas gift knitting. I finished knitting it in Florida and then started putting all the pieces together when we got back.
Last night, I made my first ham, which was delicious! We also had the traditional black-eyed peas to bring luck in the New Year. Apparently, we didn’t eat enough peas though, because when we went to leave for work this morning we discovered we’d been “burglarized.”
I say “burglarized” because prior to this morning I would have called it being "robbed," but the nice police officer that filed our report said there is definitely a difference. When you are “robbed” you are forced to give over your possessions. When you are “burglarized” the items are taken without your knowledge.
Here’s what happend to us – somehow someone managed to open our automatic garage door sometime last night or early this morning. (We think they may have had a universal remote that was the same frequency as ours.) Since we didn’t know this was even possible, my car was not locked. So they went into my car’s glove box and took my GPS system and an iPod dock. They also took a box of marketing materials for work out of my trunk and, to top it off, took the garage door remote off my car visor.
They didn’t try to come in the house, and nothing was damaged. They didn’t even touch Garrett’s motorcycle or the boxes of stuff in our garage, just my car. The police fingerprinted the car, but unfortunately didn’t find any usable prints. They did say that several other cars were broken into last night on our street, so if they find out who broke into one of the other ones they will be able to link them all together.
The scariest part is that they took the garage door remote, like they planned to come back. So we cleared out all the access codes and locked the door from the inside. We also got a new brand of remotes today to reconfigure to the garage so the old one won’t work anymore. We think that'll be enough. It was probobly just some kids out causing trouble since they're not in school this week. A little set-back in our day, but hopefully that’ll be it for a while!
We hope that you all had a great New Year’s Day!
Love,
Michaela
